Forest Park Picnic Pavilion
Saint Louis, Missouri
The Masonry Institute of St. Louis sponsored for this picnic pavilion located in historic Forest Park. The scope of the project was to provide an inviting environment for the public to gather, have picnics and barbecue. The pavilion was designed with concrete columns, steel frames, metal deck and metal roofing for a maintenance-free structure. The structure also provided and maintained longevity required for the parks and recreation department. A stone barbecue grill acts as the center piece for the pavilion. Incorporating the adjacent park facilities, concrete was fused into the design of the columns as an accent to the masonry set piece. A low serpentine masonry wall with stone cap was used to separate the pavilion on its longitudinal axis along with change in elevation. The design helps create and divide the pavilion up into areas for smaller groups to gather.
